Quicken CC-800: "Account Needs Attention" After Restoring a Backup
One or more accounts show “needs your attention” with error CC-800 during One Step Update.
Why: CC-800 appears when an account was deactivated or deleted and then a Quicken backup was restored — the restored file expects an online connection that no longer matches what the bank’s side knows about. The reliable fix is to deactivate all accounts at the affected institution and re-add them, linking back to your existing accounts. Fixing only the flagged account usually isn’t enough.
Fix 1: Deactivate every account at the affected bank
You must deactivate all accounts that connect through the same financial institution — not just the one showing CC-800. Include hidden ones.
- Tools → Account List.
- Tick Show hidden accounts at the bottom so none are missed.
- For each account at that bank, click Edit → Online Services tab → Deactivate.
- Repeat until every account at that institution is deactivated, then close the Account List.
Fix 2: Re-add the accounts and link them back
Now rebuild the connection from scratch.
- Tools → Add Account.
- Search for and select your financial institution, sign in with your current bank credentials, and pick the connection method if prompted.
- When the list of found accounts appears, use the Action dropdown on each one:
- Link to existing account — for accounts you already have in Quicken (this is what reconnects them).
- Add to Quicken — only for genuinely new accounts.
- Don’t add to Quicken — to skip an account.
Linking is the critical step. If you let Quicken Add accounts you already have, you’ll get duplicate registers and double transactions.
Fix 3: If you sync to Mobile or Web, reset the Quicken Cloud
CC-800 can linger when the Quicken Cloud copy is out of step with your desktop file.
- Edit → Preferences → Mobile & Web.
- Use the Reset your cloud data option, then run One Step Update again.
FAQ
Why do I have to deactivate accounts that aren’t showing the error? CC-800 is triggered by a mismatch across the whole institution connection. Quicken’s guidance is to deactivate every account at that bank, because the flagged one often can’t reconnect cleanly while the others are still half-linked.
Did restoring a backup damage my data? No. CC-800 is a connection-state mismatch, not data corruption. Your transactions are intact; only the online link needs rebuilding.
Will deactivating delete my transactions? No — deactivating removes only the live online connection. History stays in each register.
