How to Combine Multiple Files Into One PDF in Acrobat

You want to merge several documents — PDFs, a Word file, an Excel sheet, a few images — into one PDF you can send as a single attachment.

Why: Acrobat’s Combine Files tool converts each input to PDF on the fly and stitches them into one sequential document, so the source files don’t all have to be PDFs to begin with.

Step 1: Open Combine Files

  1. In desktop Acrobat, choose Menu > Combine files (Windows) or File > Combine files (Mac). You can also pick All tools > Combine files.

You can combine PDFs along with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, image, audio, video, and web files.

Step 2: Add the files you want to merge

  1. Click Add Files and select the documents, or drag and drop them straight into the Combine Files window.
  2. Add as many as you need — they’ll appear as tiles in the order you’ll merge them.

Step 3: Reorder and trim before merging

  1. Drag the file tiles (or hover a tile and click the expand icon to see individual pages) to set the sequence.
  2. Drag page thumbnails to rearrange them, and select any page or file you don’t want and remove it.

Step 4: Create the single PDF

  1. Click Combine in the upper-right corner.
  2. Acrobat builds the merged PDF and opens it. Choose Menu (or File) > Save to keep it.

FAQ

Can I reorder pages again after combining? Yes — open All tools > Organize pages and drag the thumbnails to new positions.

Do the originals get changed? No. Combine creates a new PDF; your source files are untouched.

The merged file is huge. Image-heavy sources balloon the size — afterward, run All tools > Compress a PDF (or Save as Other > Reduced Size PDF) to shrink it.
