How to Add an Email Account to the Outlook Mobile App

Published ✓ Verified ⏱️ 1 min read March 4, 2026 · by Ryan Bennett

You installed the Outlook app on your phone and want to add your email account (or a second one) the right way.

Why: Adding the account through Outlook’s own setup lets it pull mail, calendar, and contacts together. Entering just the address usually lets Outlook detect the server automatically, so you rarely need manual settings.

Step 1: Install and open Outlook

Download Microsoft Outlook from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) and open it. On first launch it offers to add an account.

Step 2: Add your first account

Tap Add Account, enter your email address, and tap Continue. Enter your password when prompted and tap Sign In. If your organization uses multi-factor authentication, approve the verification prompt, then finish any setup screens.

On Android, you can also reach this from the Menu (profile icon) > Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

Step 3: Add a second account

Once one account is set up:

  1. Tap your account menu in the top-left corner.
  2. Select the blue plus sign to add another account.
  3. Enter the email address and sign in as before.

To switch later, tap an account icon to jump to that inbox; long-press it to open a specific folder.

FAQ

Should I pick IMAP or Exchange? Choose Exchange (or let Outlook auto-detect) if you want calendar and contacts to sync too. IMAP/POP only syncs email.

My password is correct but sign-in fails. If your account uses two-step verification, you may need to approve the push prompt or use an app password generated by your provider.

Can I remove an account later? Yes. Open Settings, tap the account, and choose Delete Account.
