How to View, Edit, and Manage Saved Passwords in Chrome
You want to see a password Chrome saved, change one, remove it, or export the whole list.
Why: Chrome stores logins in Google Password Manager. Everything below lives in one place, and viewing or exporting a password requires confirming it’s you (your computer sign-in or Google Account), so a passerby can’t read them.
Fix 1: Open Google Password Manager and reveal a password
- Click More (three dots, top right) → Passwords and autofill → Google Password Manager.
- Under Passwords, click the site whose password you want.
- Click Show password (the eye icon) on the right. Confirm it’s you if prompted — the password becomes readable.
Tip: you can also manage the same list in any browser at passwords.google.com.
Fix 2: Edit or delete a saved password
When a password is out of date or you no longer use the account:
- In Google Password Manager, under Passwords, select the site.
- To change it, click Edit, update the password (or username), and click Save.
- To remove it, click Delete.
Fix 3: Export your passwords (to move or back them up)
- In Google Password Manager, click Settings on the left.
- Next to Export passwords, click Download file and confirm it’s you.
- Chrome saves a CSV file. Treat it as sensitive — it’s plain text — and delete it once you’ve imported it elsewhere.
Fix 4: Turn the “save password?” prompt on or off
- In Google Password Manager, click Settings on the left.
- Turn Offer to save passwords and passkeys on or off.
- If you previously declined saving for a site, you’ll find it under Declined sites and apps in Settings, where you can remove it so Chrome offers again.
FAQ
Is it safe to let Chrome save passwords? Yes — they’re encrypted and tied to your Google Account, and revealing or exporting one requires confirming it’s you. For an extra layer, set a screen lock or Windows sign-in PIN.
Why can’t I see a password without re-entering my PIN? That’s the on-device confirmation protecting your saved logins. It’s expected every time you reveal or export.
