Printer Printing Blank Pages in Windows 11? How to Fix It
Your printer pulls in the paper and goes through the motions, but the pages come out completely blank.
Why: The most common causes are empty or clogged ink/toner, a dried-out printhead, the wrong print settings, or an outdated driver. Work through these from the most common cause down.
Fix 1: Check ink/toner and the cartridges
- Check the estimated ink or toner levels on the printer’s control panel or its companion app — a nearly empty cartridge prints blank.
- If you just installed new cartridges, confirm you removed all the protective tape and plugs.
- Reseat each cartridge firmly until it clicks.
- Make sure you’re using clean, dry paper of the type and size the printer expects, loaded in the correct tray.
- Print a test page from the printer’s own control panel (not from Windows) — if that’s also blank, the problem is the printer/ink, not Windows.
Fix 2: Clean and align the printhead
Dried ink in the nozzles is a frequent cause of blank inkjet output:
- Open your printer’s Maintenance tools — on the control panel, or in Printing preferences (Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > your printer > Printing preferences > Maintenance/Tools tab).
- Run Clean printhead (you may need to run it more than once).
- Run Align printhead afterward.
- Print a test page to check.
Cleaning uses ink, so only run it when you actually see blank or faded output.
Fix 3: Check your print quality settings
- Open Printing preferences for your printer.
- Set Print quality (or resolution) to Normal or Best, and turn off any Draft/Economy/Toner Save mode that can produce nearly invisible output.
- Confirm you didn’t accidentally select a blank page range or “print as image” with no content.
Fix 4: Update the printer driver
An outdated or corrupted driver can send malformed jobs that print blank:
- Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > select your printer > Manage > Update driver.
- If that doesn’t help, download the latest driver for your exact model from the manufacturer’s support site and reinstall.
FAQ
Only some pages are blank. That’s usually a content or settings issue, not hardware — check the document’s page range and that the blank pages aren’t intentional separators or trailing empty pages.
The nozzle check / test page from the printer is also blank. The printer is very low on ink or the printhead is badly clogged. Replace the cartridges or run a deeper cleaning cycle from the control panel.
It started after refilling cartridges. Refilled or third-party cartridges can have air locks or clogged nozzles. Run printhead cleaning (Fix 2); if it stays blank, try a genuine cartridge to rule out the refill.
