Word: Print Only Selected Pages or a Page Range

Published ✓ Verified ⏱️ 2 min read February 3, 2026 · by Ryan Bennett

You want to print just one page, a stretch of pages, or a handful of scattered pages — not the entire document.

Why: Word prints everything by default, but the Print screen lets you narrow it down to exactly the pages you need.

Step 1: Open the Print screen

  1. Go to File > Print (or press Ctrl+P).
  2. Use the arrows at the bottom of the preview to flip through pages and confirm what you’re about to print.

Step 2: Choose what to print

Click the first dropdown under Settings (it reads Print All Pages) and pick the option you need:

  • Print Current Page — prints only the page currently shown in the preview.
  • Custom Print — lets you type the exact pages in the Pages box (see Step 3).

Step 3: Type the pages in the Pages box

With Custom Print selected, type into the Pages box:

  • A range: 1-3 prints pages 1 through 3.
  • Single pages: 2 prints just page 2.
  • A mix: 3, 5-7 prints page 3 and pages 5 through 7 — separate individual pages and ranges with commas.

Then choose your copies and printer, and click Print.

FAQ

Can I print only a bit of text I’ve highlighted? Yes — select the text in the document first, then go to File > Print and choose Print Selection from the Settings dropdown.

My page numbers restart in different sections, so the range prints the wrong pages. In documents with multiple sections, type the page and section together in the Pages box, e.g. p2s2 for page 2 of section 2, or a range like p2s2-p3s2.

Nothing happens / it prints the whole document anyway. Make sure the first dropdown shows Custom Print (not Print All Pages) before you type in the Pages box, and that you pressed Print rather than just previewing.
