Microsoft Store Apps Won't Update in Windows 11? How to Force and Fix Updates

Your Microsoft Store apps and games are stuck on old versions and won’t update on their own.

Why: updates are normally automatic, but they stall if automatic updates got turned off, the Store cache is jammed, or Windows itself needs updating. Here’s how to force them and keep them flowing.

Fix 1: Force a manual update from the Store

1. Open the Microsoft Store.
2. Go to Library (bottom-left), then select Get updates.
3. The Store checks every app and downloads any available updates. Let them finish.

Fix 2: Make sure automatic app updates are on

Microsoft makes Store app updates automatic for security; if they were switched off, turn them back on.

1. In the Store, select your profile icon (top right) → Settings (App settings).
2. Turn App updates On. From now on, apps update in the background.

Fix 3: Reset the Store cache (wsreset.exe)

A jammed cache can block the update queue.

1. Press Windows logo key + R, type wsreset.exe, select OK.
2. Let the blank Command Prompt window close on its own (about ten seconds); the Store reopens. Try Library → Get updates again.

Fix 4: Update Windows itself

App updates can depend on Windows components being current.

• Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates, install everything, and restart — then run Library → Get updates once more.

Some apps updated but one is stuck — what now? Repair or reset just that app: Settings → Apps → Installed apps → the app → More (⋯) → Advanced options → Repair, then try Get updates again.

Do I have to keep checking manually? No. Once App updates is On (Fix 2), the Store updates apps in the background automatically — manual Get updates is only for forcing it sooner.
