Battery Icon Missing from the Windows 11 Taskbar? Put It Back

Published ✓ Verified ⏱️ 2 min read April 16, 2025 · by Ryan Bennett

Your Windows 11 laptop’s battery (Power) icon has disappeared from the bottom-right corner of the taskbar.

Why: The battery icon is a system icon controlled by a single toggle. If that toggle gets switched off — or the battery driver glitches after an update — Windows stops drawing the icon even though the battery still works fine.

Fix 1: Check the hidden icon menu first

The icon may simply be tucked away, not gone.

  1. Click the Show hidden icons arrow at the far-right of the taskbar.
  2. If the battery icon is in the flyout, drag it down onto the taskbar corner to keep it visible.

Fix 2: Turn the Power icon back on

If it’s not hidden, re-enable it in Settings.

  1. Right-click an empty part of the taskbar and choose Taskbar settings (or open Settings > Personalization > Taskbar).
  2. Expand Other system tray icons (and, on builds that show it, Select which icons appear on the taskbar / Turn system icons on or off).
  3. Make sure the Power toggle is turned On.

The icon should reappear in the corner immediately.

Fix 3: Reset the battery driver if the toggle is greyed out

If the Power toggle is missing or dimmed on a laptop, the battery driver has likely stalled. Re-cycling it usually fixes it.

  1. Right-click Start and choose Device Manager.
  2. Expand Batteries.
  3. Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, choose Disable device, and confirm with Yes.
  4. Wait a few seconds, right-click the same entry again, and choose Enable device.
  5. Restart your PC, then re-check the Power toggle from Fix 2.

FAQ

I’m on a desktop PC and there’s no battery toggle at all. That’s expected. The Power icon only appears on devices that run on a battery, so a desktop with no battery won’t show one.

The icon is back but the battery percentage looks wrong. That’s a separate calibration/driver matter, not a taskbar display issue — the steps above only control whether the icon shows.
