Battery Icon Missing from the Windows 11 Taskbar? Put It Back

On Windows 11, the battery indicator belongs to the Quick Settings area alongside network and volume. It is not a background app icon that you reveal from the hidden-icons arrow. The Windows 10 Power visibility toggle is not a Windows 11 repair step.

Fix 1: Check whether Windows detects a battery

Open Settings → System → Power & battery. On a laptop, check whether a battery and charging state are shown. A desktop without a battery normally has no battery indicator. Press Win + A to open Quick Settings and compare its display with the taskbar.

If Windows shows a battery in Settings but the taskbar area is missing or frozen, continue with Explorer troubleshooting. If Windows does not detect the laptop battery, investigate the battery, its firmware and drivers rather than looking for a tray visibility switch.

Fix 2: Restart Windows Explorer

Save work, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, and find Windows Explorer in Task Manager. Right-click it and choose Restart. The taskbar briefly disappears while Explorer restarts. If necessary, save all work and restart the PC.

Fix 3: Check battery and OEM updates

Open Device Manager → Batteries and check for the expected battery device or an error. Install applicable Windows updates and the laptop manufacturer’s battery, chipset and firmware updates for your exact model. Use the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure if the battery is missing, not charging or reports an error; avoid removing drivers without knowing how to restore them.

Is there a Power switch in Other system tray icons? That area controls background app icons. Windows 11’s network, volume and battery area is separate; Windows 10 instructions for turning system icons on and off do not apply.

Can I show a battery percentage? Availability and the setting’s location depend on your Windows build. Check the options offered in Power & battery; absence of a percentage setting is not proof that the battery is broken.
