Microsoft Store Error 0x80131500 ('Try That Again') in Windows 11? Here's the Fix
The Microsoft Store shows “Try that again” with error code 0x80131500, and pages won’t load.
Why: the Store can’t complete its secure connection — usually because of a stale cache, a wrong system clock or region, or a TLS setting that blocks the handshake. Fix the likely causes in order.
Fix 1: Reset the Microsoft Store cache (wsreset.exe)
- Press Windows logo key + R to open the Run box.
- Type
wsreset.exeand select OK. - Leave the blank Command Prompt window alone — after about ten seconds it closes and the Store reopens automatically. Try loading a page again.
Fix 2: Fix your date, time, and region
The Store’s secure connection fails if the clock or region is wrong.
- Settings → Time & language → Date & time → turn on Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically, then select Sync now.
- Settings → Time & language → Language & region → make sure Country or region matches where you actually are.
Fix 3: Check your TLS settings
If 0x80131500 persists, an old security protocol setting may be blocking the connection.
- Press Windows logo key + R, type
inetcpl.cpl, select OK. - On the Advanced tab, scroll to the security section:
- Uncheck Use TLS 1.0 and Use TLS 1.1.
- Check Use TLS 1.2 (and Use TLS 1.3 if listed).
- Select OK, restart the PC, and reopen the Store.
Fix 4: Update Windows and the Microsoft Store
- Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates, install everything, and restart.
- Open the Microsoft Store, and on the relaunch select Check for Updates so the Store itself updates to the latest version.
FAQ
My clock looked right but it still failed — why touch it? Even being off by a few minutes, or a mismatched time zone, can break the secure handshake. Use Sync now to be sure.
Is changing TLS settings safe? Yes — turning off the obsolete TLS 1.0/1.1 and leaving TLS 1.2/1.3 on is the current, more secure configuration Windows expects.
